Christ Church is the original Church of England Parish Church of Thornton

The church was consecrated in 1836, at a time when Thornton was a scattered rural community.  Our building became known as the Little Church in the Trees, but since then the old village community has grown and changed beyond all recognition.

Today, the parish encompasses mainly large housing developments, with some industry and a few reminders of our rural past.  Thornton continues to grow and change, so the Church has to be ready to respond and relate in new ways to the community of which we are part.

Our Mission Statement encourages the Church to be:
Your local Church with a Global Hope

It is nice to reflect on the past, but essential that we continue to look to the future!

The church seeks, therefore, to remain at the heart of the community, not only for worship, but also as a centre for many other activities including:

  • Brownies (7-10 yrs)
  • Junior Church(Sunday School)
